Preparing for the holidays can be a joyful, fulfilling experience. Decorating the home can be time-consuming, however, and when your efforts are only enjoyed for a temporary period of time, it may feel that that it isn’t worth the reward. There are many ways, though, that you can show your seasonal cheer without reinventing the wheel: below we’ve listed five ways you can decorate your house for the holidays with décor that will last throughout the year’s many celebrations.
1. Indoor Foliage
Plants are a festive and lively addition to your décor for any occasion (and they go with everything). For your year-round touch that’s also low maintenance, keep a jade plant as a focal point or arrange a display of succulents, like cactus or agave, in neutral-toned pots. For a seasonal touch, add poinsettias to your mix this time of year, transfer in African violets for the spring, and add hibiscus for a touch of tropics in the summer.
2. Reusable Wreaths
Wreaths are a fantastic touch to your entryway, and they don’t have to solely represent the holiday season; you can decorate wreaths in neutrals and browns in the fall, and with blossoms and sprigs in the spring. As long as you have a round base to begin attaching your materials and a hook to hang your wreath, you can do just about anything. 3. Monochromatic String Lights
Nothing says winter and holidays more than string lights hung around a room. But how can you parlay this decoration into a year-round home addition? Focus on single-color bulbs, like a classic white. Go either very small on bulb size or very large to avoid the connection to Christmas lights during other times of the year. Well chosen and placed string lights can add a lovely touch of whimsy to any room, any time of the year.
4. Glass Containers with Ornaments
Glass jars are a beautiful way to show off various decorations in a unique, unexpected manner. It’s also very simple to replace the decorations within your glass containers for an ever-revolving, simple adornment that will always impress. In the fall, consider using pine cones or popcorn kernels to fill your container. For the holidays, use small ornaments or cinnamon sticks. Try hard candy in your glass jar in the spring, and play with citrus, like clementines or lemons, in the summer months.
5. Chalk or Marker Board with Various Greetings
Add a rustic touch with a stylish chalkboard, or a trendy touch with a tasteful marker board, in your entrance, kitchen, or entertaining area. This can add a fresh, fun look to your space year-round; simply write in an appropriate greeting and update your message throughout the year.
